Kitchen Cleaning Supplies

  • All-purpose cleaner
  • Oven cleaner
  • Stainless steel cleaner
  • Scrubbing sponges
  • Microfiber cloths
  • Baking soda
  • White vinegar

Brands we love:

✔️ Specially formulated stainless steel appliance wipes are the simplest cleaning solution for stainless steel. They’re made to keep your fridge or dishwasher free of unwanted fingerprints, smudge marks, and residue. We love the effective simplicity of Weiman Stainless Steel Wipes.

✔️ A good degreaser will do wonders on your microwave and stovetop, but you’ll also want a product to clean out your oven. This brand offers a range of products for a variety of surfaces and purposes and is formulated to make a daunting task easy, so check out the line of products from Easy Off.

✔️ Trust us when we say you’ll want something better than your average kitchen sponge when cleaning up around your kitchen. These guys are basically smell-proof and you can buy multiple sponges at a time to use to clean just about every room in your home! Check out the full range of products from Scrub Daddy.

✔️ This is basically a “miracle” product and it’s particularly good on glass-top stove surfaces and almost everywhere around the house. You can find this popular brand in a paste, spray, or cream so check out The Pink Stuff.

NOTE: Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s directions on any specialty kitchen cleaning products you buy, like oven cleaners and stainless steel cleaners.

Countertop Cleaning Tips
To clean countertops and other hard surfaces, we always use all-purpose cleaners. But if your counters are marble, quartz, or granite, you should only ever clean them with mild dish detergent and warm water to prevent breaking down the stone’s sealant.

Sink & Garbage Disposal Cleaning Tips
Stainless steel sinks can be cleaned pretty easily by buffing them with baking soda with a sponge, then spraying white vinegar over the powder. After the fizzing has stopped, rinse your sink with cool water and leave it to dry. Finish up by dropping two halves of a lemon down the garbage disposal and turning it on to freshen the smell and sharpen the blades.

Essential Cleaning Supplies for Your Floors

Be sure to vacuum, sweep or dry-mop before starting the cleaning process to remove any small dirt or debris particles. The same solution will also work on linoleum and tile. If you are cleaning tile, make sure to avoid soaking the grout lines with dirty water, as this can lead to discoloration.

  • Vacuum
  • Carpet cleaner
  • Bucket
  • Rags
  • Mop
  • Distilled white vinegar
  • Flooring specific cleaners

Brands we love:

✔️ For tougher stains, you might want to invest in a dedicated carpet cleaner, which can be great for cleaning messes that are set in or that a scrub brush can’t tackle on its own. The one we suggest is the Bissell Little Green Portable Carpet Cleaner.

✔️ You’ll want to have a specialized cleaning solution to treat it, as using a solution specifically formulated for hardwood helps to protect your floors and keep them looking new. We love Aunt Fannies Hardwood Cleaner.

✔️ Having a specialized grout cleaner on hand can cut the time spent scrubbing, revive dull-looking tiles, and even return grout to its original color. For a product that packs a punch, check out Goo Gone Grout & Tile Cleaner.

✔️ Laminate and vinyl plank flooring require different products than hardwoods, so you’ll need to use a good all-purpose floor cleaner. There are actually a ton of options on the market, but many of them leave behind a sticky residue, so we often recommend using a simple product like Aunt Fannies Vinegar Floor Wash.

✔️ Vacuums are obviously a requirement in every home, and there are TONS to choose from. While there are still many others on the market, we are obsessed with the Shark NV360 Vacuum.

✔️ Sweeper mops can be easier to use, but nothing beats the effective cleaning of a traditional mop and bucket. You’ll get hands-free wringing, washable mop heads, and all the power of one of the best-selling mops with the O-Cedar EasyWring Spin Mop.

Bathroom Cleaning Supplies

  • Toilet brush
  • Grout and tile cleaner
  • Grout brush
  • All-purpose cleaner

Brands we love:

✔️ You’ll need to clean both the surface and the bowl of your toilet, but we know that can be an unpleasant task. To make the job easier and work through the germs and unpleasant orders, you’ll need a good toilet cleaner. We love the fresh scents and effective cleaning power of Lysol Cling Toilet Bowl Gel.

✔️ Spraying cleaning solution on a rag or directly on a surface around your bathroom can sometimes actually be less effective than wipes. Disinfecting wipes are a great option for quickly cleaning various fixtures in your home and especially your bathroom, like faucets, door handles, and other highly touched surfaces. For this task, there is no better choice than the tried and true Clorox Disinfectant Wipes.

✔️ Who would say no to a little less elbow grease and a little more cleaning power? Electric spin scrubbers are every clean freak’s dream, especially around the bathroom. We love the power and interchangeable head of the IEZFIX Electric Spin Scrubber.

A toilet brush is absolutely necessary for keeping the spread of germs under control and keeping your toilet clean. When dealing with the grout on your floor and in your shower, we suggest using a grout brush, or other small brush with firm bristles, and make sure you read the instructions before using any products. All-purpose cleaners can be used on sinks and other hard surfaces, but remember the tips from above if you have granite or another stone around your bathroom.

Essential Cleaning Supplies for Living Areas & Bedrooms

  • Glass cleaner
  • Lint roller
  • Extendable duster
  • Vacuum

Brands we love:

✔️ A simple duster is an indispensable tool to help you quickly wipe down dusty table tops, shelves, and more. A duster we love that won’t break the bank is TUKUOS Microfiber Duster.

✔️ All-purpose cleaner is designed to help break down dirt and grime quickly and leave a nice clean surface and no lingering chemical smells. Check out Method All-Purpose Cleaner.

✔️ Disinfectant sprays and wipes kill the bacteria living in our homes that can make us sick and even emit unpleasant odors, so we always have some on hand. Our favorite is Seventh Generation Disinfectant Spray.

✔️ Glass cleaner is an essential, and the best cleaners will leave the glass around your home streak-free and crystal clear. Our go-to is Windex Ammonia-Free Glass & Window Spray.

How Often Do You Need to Clean?

We recommend doing a light general cleaning around your whole home at least once a week. Most people will wipe down surfaces in the kitchen, dining room, and bathrooms a few times each week, depending on how often those areas get used. Many chores like vacuuming, dusting, cleaning mirrors, etc are also typically done at least once each week.

Outside of regular weekly cleaning and tidying, you will want to do a thorough deep cleaning of your home at least once every month. Tackling tasks like washing walls, scrubbing baseboards, and cleaning windows can eliminate allergens and keep bacteria accumulation under control. You might even be able to go slightly longer between deep cleans if you don’t regularly have pets or children in your home, or if you’re able to do a light clean more frequently.

So, to summarize: do some light cleaning and disinfecting around your home once a week, and deep clean your whole home once a month.

How Can You Make a Good Cleaning Schedule?

The best way to make an easy and simple cleaning schedule and task list is to break up the whole cleaning schedule into smaller and more manageable pieces. When you look at cleaning your home as one massive task, things can be really overwhelming and harder than it seems.

Dedicating a whole day every week just to cleaning the house, especially if you have pets and young children running around or just a busy work life, is basically impossible. Honesty, most people can’t keep up with it all, not even us and we’re the professionals here. So how are you supposed to make cleaning more manageable and less time-consuming?

It is actually a lot easier than you might think, but it will require just a bit of thought and planning. Think about all the times in your day when you might have a few extra minutes to accomplish smaller cleaning or organizational tasks.

When you brush your teeth in the morning, you can also use a disinfectant wipe to wipe down the bathroom counter and put a few items away. While you’re cooking, you can spend a few minutes wiping the microwave or other appliances free of fingerprints and greasy smudges.

Multi-tasking is a great skill to have so don’t be afraid to take a little time to figure out what works for you and your home.

Don’t forget to delegate a few tasks as well. Unless you live alone, there are other people making messes in and around your home too. Work with your family or roommates to help you create and stick to a reasonable routine and system that works for everyone so that you aren’t the only one keeping your home clean. No one enjoys being the only one doing all the work, so make sure that isn’t you.

When it comes to filling your arsenal of cleaning supplies, you have to be sure that you choose products that fit your lifestyle, budget, and sensitivities. Keeping your house clean is hard enough work whether you live alone or with others, so make sure you pick cleaning supplies that will make your life and home cleaning schedule easier.
